A Journey from Neuroscience Research to a Personal Mission
Our founder, Dr. Owen Phillips, spent over a decade in neuroscience research. He published more than 50 peer-reviewed papers, conducting work at institutions including UCLA, Stanford, University of Rome, and University of Toulouse. While at Stanford in 2017, Owen became deeply interested in the potential of artificial intelligence to transform medical imaging. He helped launch the Stanford AI Club and began applying AI to neuroimaging. That passion became the seed for BrainKey.
In 2019, BrainKey was accepted into Y Combinator, the world’s top startup accelerator, and began its journey as a company.
Then, our work became intensely personal. A health event in Owen's family underscored the immense challenges that patients and physicians face when trying to understand complex neurological data from imaging. This experience provided a powerful, real-world perspective on the critical need for better tools—tools that could make anatomical information clearer, more quantitative, and more accessible.
This personal experience crystallized our mission: To build technology that provides clarity. We are dedicated to making brain anatomy measurable, visible, and easier to interpret, empowering physicians with advanced analytical tools to support their work.
We believe that by enhancing the quality and accessibility of anatomical data, we can contribute to the future of neurological care. Our journey is just beginning.
